CD; The sound of (cactus-) music

Don't ask us about the technology behind 'ultra-sonic', 'amplifiers', 'acoustics', etc. but with contemporary technology it is possible to record the sound of (growing) cacti.

And that resulted in a CD with cactus music.

"Cactuscrackling" it's named and is recorded by musicians/artists Christoph Rutimann and Freddy Studer with Bobbi Burri, Phil Minton and Stephan Wittwer. The CD is distributed by Rec Rec, Magnusstrasse 5, CH-8004 Zurich (Switzerland).

The CD was send to us by one of our German guests.

If you are into cacti you will, listening to the music, associate the sounds with the diverse cacti-species: the growing 'pains' of a young Cleisto cactus; the merry twibbling of a Golden Barrel; the spiky sound of a Stetsonia; etc.

Each plant has it's own (sound/communication) characteristics. The musicians/artists unlocked those 'sonic secrets', or as one of artists reveals in the booklet which goes with the CD: "Cacti have sounds that come with their own ready-made metaphors: spiky sound, brittle music, incisive improvising pointed noise".
